SAN GENNARO FESTIVAL, LITTLE ITALY

can't help it, but  I've always been drawn to the sights, smells and sheer hoopla and weirdness of carnivals.  In NYC, the closest we come is the annual "fried dough" festival better known as San Gennaro in Little Italy, now in it's 84th year. I stumbled across the opening ceremony this past week, and after briefly watching six grown men grapple with the intestinal challenges of a cannoli eating contest, and being mesmerized by some stellar signage, I got swept up in the spirit ...
