ART ON THE WAY OUT

  In recent years I have noticed a quantity of art that has been put out in the trash. Of course there are many good reasons for why this occurs, and hopefully, some will survive and find new homes, but I thought that if I document them, it would extend their lives for a brief moment.

CAFE BILLBOARDS

     On my bike rambles around the city, I've noticed a mini trend of artist made fold-up billboards.
     My trips usually involve a coffee stop, and I might add, the enticements are often successful.

NYC POSTERS

           As a lover of good art of all flavors, I have always been drawn to the vibrant 
          graphic shenanigans of poster design in NYC. The visual scramble of the city 
          requires special skills to draw eyes to their subject. I admit, I often forget the 
          product, but I love the design. Here are a few recent favorites.

5 POINTS

     

This weekend, artists from the 5 Points, graffiti landmark in Long Island City, were awarded a 6.7 million settlement for the destruction of their work by a real estate developer. The ruling upholds the Visual Artist Rights Act that protects artists works in public places.      I have been documenting the walls for well over a decade, and, like everyone else, was stunned and saddened by the loss. It was internationally known and served as a major tourist destination from early on. Here is a small sampling from those years... Streetside 2007 a favorite photo-op spot space is the place, and artists from around the world would sign up for a spot.
