TRUCK ART NYC

Dear friends,
For any of you who might be interested, I would like to mention that as I adjust to the various media streams that are part of the modern landscape, I am (finally) using Instagram as a way to share single images that I take out in the field. My Instagram tagline is: kenbrownpixpop

Some of the art that characterizes many NYC neighborhoods has slipped away
from the walls and onto trucks. These were gathered over the past couple of years and reflect the growing presence of art that enlivens the roadways.

T-SHIRT SEASON

As summer weather slides in, and T-shirt season begins,
here is a random and completely nonobjective sampling
               of some faves ...

"A fathers day present from my 12 year old daughter"

"my mom bought me this in Berlin"

"I made this with a stencil and thought it
looked better from the back"

"my dad made it"

"I have a black cat, love plants, and had to
buy this shirt"

winner of the three legged race

abstraction on the Willyburg bridge

speaking of abstraction...

"bought this from a pile on a last day sale
at comic con"

and lastly, a high fashion bunny shirt ...

"THE SLEEPWALKER"

A couple of years ago, I discovered the work of Anthony Matelli at a gallery opening in Chelsea.  While walking the High Line the other day, I again came across his very realistic self-portrait sculpture, “The Sleepwalker.” If it is a measure of an artist’s success to have a conversation with his audience, Mr. Matelli has more than made the grade. What first came to mind about his rendering was a depiction of the classic nightmare of being caught sleepwalking in public in one’s underwear. OK, maybe it is impossible to ignore a near naked sleepwalker in a public place, but what really fascinated me was the wide range of interactivity that I witnessed. Of course the abundance of cameras and selfie sticks were a factor, but I still wondered … what if he woke up?

"WORDS ON WALLS"

Everyone has something to say, and the “words on walls” category
of random humor, oddball aphorisms, poetry and politics, continue
             to amuse.
