POSE-A-THON TIMES SQUARE

  I am fascinated by the many aspects of our pose-a-thon culture. It is the        natural byproduct of the current shift in photo/phone technology and it is 
amazing just to consider the mind boggling volume of images made every second. I feel fortunate to live in such an active laboratory for research. 
These images were gathered over the past few years and feature the 
interactions between regular folks and the strikingly real wax figure 
celebrities that pose outside as enticements at Madame Tussaud’s Wax 
Museum on 42nd St. I might add that this place is the real thing, a true 
gem in the (mostly) generic froth of Times Square today.

HALLOWEEN, THE CUTE AND THE MACABRE

         Ah Halloween, a favorite holiday with the odd commingling of the 

         cute and macabre on the usually quiet streets of Dyker Hts. and 

         other neighborhoods.

DEAD COUCHES

We used to live in Cambridge, a  college town where a goodly percentage of the 

population would move at least twice a year during semester transitions. For those who didn’t move, more than a few apartments were at least partly furnished with street scores made during those moments. These dead couches (all in NYC), 

might not make the cut, but they do remind me of those days…

GREEN POSTER WARS

           Last March I posted a collection of painted over posters in what 

           I thought might be a brief skirmish in the turf wars on the poster 

           walls of the city. Not so, the greening continues and the strange 

           subliminal forces of imagery seeping through, provide a bizarre 

           and unintended art of its own.

"MANNEQUINS OF MANHATTAN"

         As Fashion Week winds down, here is a brief homage to the many
          mannequins who occupy shop windows and labor long hours 
          (in often difficult poses) for the NY fashion industry.
