WHAT BLIZZARD?

They say we're going to be hit with a big time blizzard today, so please take comfort
in this slightly surreal slice of warmer times…

OH SAVANNAH

A couple of days after New Year we had the chance to take a quick winter break to Savannah, Ga.

Here's a quick sketch of this historic, lively, lovely (and warm) Southern city:

"FELLOW CITIZENS" NYC.

A tiny fraction of the 8 plus million who make this quaint burg such a lively and livable place…

caught in the exit ramp of our front door…

the owner of this spectacular garment said that her friend made it
from one of those cheesy tapestries (poker playing pups) that once
could be found in the garment district for 10 bucks.

I met this guy at the flea market and immediately
wanted to buy the shirt off his back.

This is the basic "Love Portal" costume for Matt Silver, a performance
artist frequently seen in Union Square.

This young man and his colorful menagerie were hanging near Madame
Taussaud's Wax Museum inTimes Square.

neighborhood kids roaring up the sidewalks...

This woman was part of a "save the bees" demonstration in
Union Square and my surreal sensitive antennae were quickly
tweaked by the costume.  Also, I completely support this very
important issue.

This woman was taking a break with her Macaw before heading
over to the San Gennaro festival in Little Italy.

leap frog anyone?

"HEADZUP"

When I was in the 3rd grade I made flip books on pads of paper my dad brought home from his office.
A half century or so later, I find myself drawing animated gifs on my computer. Watching the drawings
come to life gives me the same sense of wonder they did then…

"WHEAT PASTE CITY"

For walkers and gawkers, this town is full of visual treats in unlikely places. I love these surprises, especially wheat pastes which continue to amaze as a measure of the determination to get work up on the walls. They obviously take considerable time and
effort and are still perhaps the most ephemeral form of street art.

Here's a big Hats-off to the many talented artists who contribute to the ongoing show.

"SPIN CYCLE"

This past weekend we went upstate for a last dollop of autumn and a visit with our friend, Maria Reidelbach. She operates the Homegrown Mini-Golf featuring the worlds largest garden gnome.  Among her other oddball interests she maintains an online
needlepoint museum. She had just received a donated jacket that was completely covered in needlepoint patches and I felt it was definitely worthy of documentation.

Here's a quick gif celebration I call "Spin Cycle"...
