DEAD HORSE BAY
Update on Dead Horse Bay:
Last weekend we biked out to Dead Horse Bay for a post Sandy peek at a favorite location. Other than a slight shifting among some larger elements (an abandoned yacht and some newly toppled trees), the essence of this fantastically surreal landscape was relatively unchanged. A New York City dump for over a hundred years, the vestiges of our culture
are scattered about in an abundance rarely seen in an era of carefully manicured public
landfills.

HAND PAINTED SIGNS-NYC
I have been obsessed with hand painted signs forever and as we witness the transformation away from original renderings to cheesy vinyl substitutes, it feels like we are watching the end of an era. Of course, as long as there are artists around and businesses need to tell people where they are, hand painting will endure. It does make me appreciate the soulful, art from the heart funk factor and that is the basis for this celebration... Here are a few gems gathered over the past year or so.
